This is what happens when you put them in the microwave for 3-4 seconds.
With practice, you can turn a thusly nuked CD into a very cool stalagmite formation.
This is what the underside looks like.
A shot of two of these that I have made. Its pretty easy, if you don't mind the smell of melted plastic. Just warm it over an open flame (taper candles work best) and then gently push a philips head screwdriver into the warm plastic. Heat the label side, not the silver side.
